Øuroboros

Øuroboros is interpreted as a symbol of eternal renewal or cycle of life, death and rebirth. It symbolizes the cyclical nature of the universe: creation from destruction, life arising from death. We as humans also seem to follow this basic code of the universe. When we create and destroy. Circular form representing everchanging state of the universe.  Endless oscillation of the moment.

What starts out as triumph soon becomes manipulated into a dialectic of temptation, leaving only a sense of unreality and the unlikelihood of a new order. Sense of nihilism and the chance of a new reality.

The object itself represents the Ouroboros, an ancient symbol depicting a serpent or dragon eating its own tail. Ouroboros entered the Western tradition through ancient Egyptian iconography and Greek magical tradition. It was adopted as a symbol in Gnosticism and above all in the alchemy. Personal spiritual knowledge was emphasized over orthodox teachings, traditions, and authority. Rejection of the material world. The important role of knowledge and belief in the divine spark in the human dwelling.

Øuroboros is not a negative symbol. Its meaning is in the beginning and end, life and death, which repeats itself endlessly. Installation is rotating endlessly. Øuroboros object is created from up-cycled materials, LED-strips and micro-controllers and speakers. Cables are forming the basis of these artificial materials.

The entire project is aimed at stimulating and initiating a discussion about the role of technology in our lives and reflecting on the current situation of the climate crisis.

Nature will prevail.
